Have you ever seen the beauty of a dance recital or the stunning display of sheer gracefulness of ballroom dancing? Well if your answer to these is yes then you must have noticed the many gorgeous dance costumes that were worn. Dancing is very much a part of our lives. There are cultures that have used dancing for various ceremonial and traditional festivals. In many history books you can see that dance has been around almost as long as man’s history. In the ancient times dancing was used for asking the gods for favors and to scare demons and other evil spirits away from villages. As you see the history of dance is woven in to many aspects of our lives.
These were not the only uses that dancing held for the people of earlier times. Sometimes these cultures used dancing to act as a form of history. By enacting various incidents and events that happened in the tribes or villages past they would keep that memory alive in the people’s minds. Sometimes this form of history of dance and emotions would be passed on through generations.
Dance was found not only in the “primitive” cultures but the more advanced civilizations like Egyptians, Greeks and Romans used dance for many of these reasons as well. As there were forms of writing by these times, the history of dance became more known but there was very little told about the people who danced in various rituals and the uses that dancing was used for.
As time passes us by we see that dancing forms have changed in many different ways. The history of dance now showed that dancing was used for entertainment as well for ceremonial events. In many cultures dancing was used to welcome guests into homes and show the importance of these people. Now you can see that there are many different trends developing in the history of dance. So we will travel to another part of history to see what else is happening to dance.
We have now entered the time of the waltz’s birth. The history of dance let’s us see that men and women are beginning to desire a freedom from the earlier restrictive dancemovements. While there are some people who think that the waltz is shameless and should be banned from polite society there are a vast majority who embrace this dance as being just what society needs.
We are now nearing the end of our brief journey through the history of dance. As you may see there are lots of different dance forms being explored. Some of these dance forms are still based on various folk dances and other forms of entertainment. In the time before electricity people would play piano in the evening and in concert halls by the light of a candle. It was not only dangerous but made it very hard to see the keyboard well enough to play great music. Another issue the musician had to deal with was the glare that came from the glowing candle, reducing their sight of the music and potentially causing a headache. An inventor looked at this issue and placed a cover on the back of a candle that reduced the glare and focused the light from the candle onto the piano keys and the sheet music in front of the player. The piano lamp was born.
When electricity arrived and the light bulb came along it was not long afterward that the same issue regarding glare with the electric light bulb arose. The light bulb was much safer than the candle, to be sure, but the glare in the eyes of the piano player was rough on the eyes and caused a lot of strain for evening and auditorium players. The cover was then placed on the front of the light bulb to reduce the glare and the piano lamp light fixture was a staple for anyone serious about playing a piano.
There is a fancier model of piano lamp that are called candelabras. These are multi-light arrangements that typically sit on top of grand pianos. They are very formal and a little bit on the expensive side, costing $200 to $1,000 dollars depending upon the style you are interested in purchasing. The candelabra is attractive, as most piano lamps are, but the main reason for having a piano lamp is still to display light on sheet music and the piano keyboard. piano lamps are not limited to use with grand pianos. They fit well on console, studio and upright pianos.
While most piano lamps sit directly on top of the piano, several models are vertical lamps that raise from the floor. An electric piano lamp is normally designed for either one or two light bulbs of 40-watts or less.

From their very inception, piano lamps have replaced the need to use candles to provide light and add a nice mood to a piano recital or concert. Modern piano lamps are much safer and can be even more beautiful than the nicest candelabras from times of old.

Empire of the Sun Christian Bale : Is Christian Bale the Next Big Movie Star?
Do you know who Christian Bale is?
Chances are if you do then you wonder how anyone else doesn’t. And if you don’t then you probably wonder how some people think he’s so famous. Crazy I know, but it’s the truth.
Christian Bale is one of those actors who have a very faithful following - especially on the Internet. But he’s still a relative unknown to major sections of the US. Chances are you’ve seen him in a movie whether you realize it or not.
Bale is not a young guy - he just turned 34 in January - but he still must be considered at least in the early to middle stages of his career. He certainly made many movies before American Psycho but it was that movie that first gave him a healthy dose of publicity. Still, he didn’t continue the momentum he built-up with that movie and he stayed pretty much in the background.
Now, he’s about to dash to the forefront of Hollywood.
Bale, who was born in Wales (the UK) - took a major step toward stardom when he starred in the new Batman movie, Batman Begins, and the remake of the 1950s Western, 3:10 to Yuma. But in the next year and a half he will star in two more movies that are sure to be Blockbusters. I predict that those two movies will catapult Bale up with the top 5 actors in Hollywood. That’s right. He’ll be mentioned with guys like Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and possibly even Tom Hanks.
This summer Bale will again play Bruce Wayne in the latest Batman movie - The Dark Knight. And then next summer (May 22, 2009 - to be exact) Bale will star in what is sure to be the summer’s biggest movie, the latest Terminator movie - Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. This movie will be huge and it will vault Bale into the stratosphere as he plays the role of John Connor.
And really stardom couldn’t happen to a better guy. Bale is really involved in some worthy causes and uses his money and his name to influence positive change in this world. He comes from a family that is involved in causes (his father actually married famed feminist Gloria Steinem in 2000) that are noble. So he was raised to care and try to make positive changes and he’s sure to continue with his great works.
So maybe you’ve heard of Christian Bale and maybe you haven’t. But one thing’s for sure, within the next year and a half, everyone will know exactly who this great actor is.
