I am very concerned about the state of the world today. I mean, the more closely you look, the more things seem to be coming apart at the seams. Maybe those people who are saying “The End Is Nigh!” actually have it right!
Let’s start with our homes. We all know that house values have been destroyed, just destroyed in the past year or two. How can this happen? And now it seems we are in for even worse news. The Fed drops interest rates, but mortgage rates just keep going up. I hear that mortgage rate predictions are on the rise again.
The presence in the market of a large number of homes in foreclosure and pre-foreclosure makes it increasingly difficult to sell homes for their full appraised value. Buyers know there are bargains to be had, and many simply don’t make offers on homes at full price.
This bargain-hunting behavior, while natural, further destabilises the market and increases the security risk across all loans - if the market is not sustaining sales at appraised value, then all property offered as security is potentially worth far less than its book value.
This type of situation makes the risk managers in lending organisations very uncomfortable, and they will be advising higher interest rates for mortgages across the board until the real estate market settles down. I have a friend who has a house that I feel is one of the nicest I have been in. He and his wife have not cut any corners when it comes to the finest decorations, they have the nicest furnishings, they also have the best taste in everything that they put into their home which makes it a lot of fun to see what they are up to on a regular basis. My wife and I always enjoy going to their house because we come back with some terrific ideas for what we might do with our house someday when the kids have moved out (which is still a long way away).
The last time we visited I went into his den and saw a new piece of furniture that I had not seen in a home before, any home. The beautiful handcrafted piece of furniture was a guitar display cabinet that allowed him to place up to 6 guitars in a cabinet. The cabinet had several advantages over a traditional music cabinet than keeping the guitars in their cases and extremely organized in the corner like he had them the last time I had visited his house. He said the advantage was that the guitar display cabinet was keeping the instruments at a consistent humidity (very cool) so the wood would actually last longer and the instruments would sound more like they had been initially built to sound rather than having a higher pitch as the wood dried. He went on to say that because the instrument display case was such a great addition to the room he found himself playing the guitar on a more regular basis. He even found himself playing his older guitars more regularly because they were so easy to get to and he could put them back in the display case at a moment’s notice. He was very proud of his instrument display case.
That caused me to go look for other instrument display cases, in addition to the traditional sheet music cabinet that we see so often, that could be built for other instruments besides guitars. I have found to my liking other display cases for violins, trumpets, clarinets and many individual guitar display cases. As I researched the background of the cases I found that many individuals had purchased them from companies who make cases for museums and public displays. The items were expensive and had to be made to order. There were no companies making them as products so that they could be made for a particular instrument and so that they could be made in a more affordable manner. As I made another round of phone calls I was able to find a few manufacturers who said they were interested in doing a line of products that could cater to particular segments of the industry who would want a high quality instrument display cabinet at an affordable price. All thanks to my friends who are trend-setters with their unique home furnishings. I have to have them over to our house next time.

Charles Mackintosh is best remembered for creating many chemical creations during his time. His most famous invention, Mackintosh Cloth, is used in piano covers and outdoor weather wear to this day. This article describes the background of the invention and the uses of it in modern times.
Charles Mackintosh lived from 1766 to 1843 and was a great inventor of water repelling fabrics and chemist. The Mackintosh raincoat is named after him. Macintosh was raised in the capital city of Scotland and at young age he was employed as a clerk in a general store. His passion, and how he spent his spare time, was devoted to his love of science, particularly chemistry. At the young age of 19 Mackintosh left his position as an employee to begin to work with the manufacturing of chemicals, which allowed him to directly involve his love of science. He was instantly and highly successful, inventing many new processes. His experiments with one of the by-products of tar called naptha led to his best known creation of waterproof fabrics. This creation was derived when he experimented with the cementing of two layers of India-rubber together. The India-rubber was made soluble by the chemical mixture of the naphtha. For his various inventions in chemistry he was, in 1823, elected a fellow of the Royal Society
The cloth he created for use in clothing had the ability to keep the harsh weather of his area in Scotland outside and then to keep the inner layer next to the skin warm and dry. The fabric was much better than traditional rain gear and was instantly approved by the people living in his time. Clothing started to use the idea of the cloth and within 10 years his name was attached to most products associated with rain gear.

The Mackintosh fabric is manufactured in many styles and helps to make any grand piano covers bright and beautiful. The Mackintosh fabric used in piano covers is not completely waterproof, as the original products developed using the material Charles invented was, because one of the qualities of being waterproof is that the fabric would not breathe and would cause more harm than good for the piano. The material used by piano cover manufacturers is much like your favorite pair of blue jeans, only woven much tighter to allow it to be water resistant on the outside. Being water resistant does not mean that it is waterproof, you will have to quickly blot any spills that occur on your Mackintosh fabric. Failing to do in a timely manner can lead to stains.
If this is a large concern for you , you should consider covering it with a layer of coating such as camp-dry or scotchguarding. That will make the cloth less likely to absorb any water and stains would not form from spills that might occur during a party or from a pet.
