Sound Advice For Decorating Your Kid’s Bathroom

July 3rd, 2008

Decorating a bathroom that is used by a child presents its own unique challenges. Young children use the bathroom in general much more often than older kids do, and are often accompanied by a parent. That makes a kid’s bathroom much more used in general than those mostly used by an adult. However, most parents don’t know how to decorate their kid’s bathroom so that it’s whimsical and “fun”. If you’re a parent, you know just how outspoken kids can be when they don’t like something; so parents usually know right away when their décor choices are unwanted. This article offer some tips and ideas that parents can use to decorate a kid’s bathroom.

Boy or Girl? It Can Make a Difference When You Decorate

Decorating a bathroom begins with the gender of the child (or children) who will use the bathroom. A boy’s bathroom can be decorated with things more likely to appeal to them such as cars, dinosaurs or bugs. A bathroom used by a young girl can be decorated to appeal to other passions that a boy may not be interested in such as dolls or princesses. If both a girl and a boy are going to use the same bathroom, it’s important to keep a neutral theme in the bathroom while catering to their interests simultaneously. No matter what your theme, there are plenty of accessories and decorations to choose from.

What Accessories And Decorations Can Be Used?

There are many different ways to accessorize your kid’s bathroom. If your child is into cars, you can get a bathmat and shower curtain with cars on them – this will generally be available as a set. Or, if your children are fans of Disney in your house, they can have bathroom rugs with pictures of Mickey or Minnie, for example, in their bathrooms.

Toothbrush tumblers come in hundreds of styles. Boys may enjoy a tumbler shaped like a dinosaur while girls may prefer tumblers that have a shape like a princess. Hand soap and lotion pumps that liven up kids’ bathrooms with their favorite animals, sports objects, or cartoon characters are also available.

Doorknobs, wastebaskets, soap dishes and tissue dispensers can be found which will cater to the interests of any child.

For example, each knob on all bathroom cabinets in your kid’s bathroom if you so choose.

You can buy knobs that look like clown faces, jungle animals, or soccer balls, depending upon what your children prefer. Similar interests can be reflected in other decorations.

A Bathroom That Grows With Your Child

As your children get older, the things that inspire or entertain them changes. Your child’s décor and accessories will likely change right along with their interests. From soap dispensers to bathmats, shower curtains to doorknobs; even the tumblers can be changed to grow right along with your child.

If possible, avoid using decorations in your kid’s bathroom that might be difficult or impossible to change. For example, wallpaper that has pictures of bugs on it may delight a boy when he is only a few years old. However, he will likely outgrow this passion, leaving wallpaper that needs to be replaced.

However you choose to decorate your kids bathroom is limited only by your own imagination – there are so many options open to you that the hardest part will be choosing which to go with. If you know your child and what he or she likes, you’ll be able to decorate the bathroom appropriately in the first place and then can change the theme as he or she gets older. With just a little planning and imagination, as well as a small budget, you can create and keep the perfect bathroom for your child.
