The 5 Types Of Furniture You Need For Your Home Or Office

August 19th, 2008

When exploring furniture types for interior furnishing, there is often an emphasis on items such as chairs, beds, tables, cupboards and desks that are kept inside a house in order to make it pleasant or suitable for working or living in. However, in interior furnishing, there are five classes of furniture, according to purpose. These classes are furniture items for storage, seating, sleeping/lying, furniture surfaces and sets.

Storage furniture generally makes use of doors, shelves and drawers. Storage furniture may be employed for purposes of holding or containing smaller goods some of which are tools, clothes, books and household items.

Furniture items for seating purposes include benches, seats, armchairs, sofa sets, footstools and couches. These may be used in the family room, eating area, bedroom and kitchen, depending on the intended use.

Pieces of furniture that provide for surfaces in a residence can take the form of coffee tables, tables, desks, stools and sideboards.

The items of furniture that can be described as “sets” include dining sets and bedroom sets. A set here refers to items of furniture manufactured as one unit.

And lastly, furniture items for sleeping/lying can take the form of beds and headboards. At headboards beds you can see examples of all of these types of furniture.

These items or pieces of furniture can be meticulously organized in a residence to fit the needs and style of the owner. Interior designers are therefore asked to generate creative designs that would meet the owner’s needs, be visually attractive and practical as well.
